Footvolley is the Brazilian sport that mix football and volleyball. It began to be played around 1960, on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro.
The sport is played on a court similar to beach volleyball, but touches the ball (as in soccer) must only be done with the feet, legs, torso and head.
The aim of the game is the same as volleyball, make the ball fall to the floor of the opponent's field, scoring a point. The game is divided into 3 parts, also called sets, which go up to 18 points.

Footvolleyball was created in Brazil, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, in the 1960s. During this period, Brazil was going through the Military Dictatorship and the football practice ban on the beaches of the city of Rio de Janeiro.
To circumvent the ban and escape the surveillance of the Military Police, beach players began to practice volleyball (which was allowed, as it was played with a net and in a demarcated area on the sand), but using the feet.
Among these players was Octávio Moraes, known as Tatá and player of the Botafogo team. For many, Tatá is the father of footvolley.
Initially called "pévolei", footvolley grew and started to be practiced throughout the country in the 1980s and 1990s. Part of this success is due to the influence of famous soccer players, who also played the sport on the beaches, such as Romário and Edmundo.
In 2003, the first Footvolley World Championship, in Athens, Greece. Currently, there are footvolley championships and leagues across the country and also abroad. Countries such as Argentina, Portugal, Holland, France, England and Thailand are practitioners of the modality.
Footvolley rules and fundamentals
As in volleyball, the purpose of the footvolley game is throw the ball to the ground in the opposing team's area, scoring a point. Know the main rules and fundamentals:

Footvolley is played in sand, usually on the beach, with a play area for 18 meters long per 9 meters wide. There is a net that divides the area in half, determining the field of each team.
Court measurements may vary according to some competitions, for example, the Footvolley World League uses a slightly smaller court (18 m x 6 m).
The net, in the men's games, is 2.20 meters from the ground, and in the women's games it is 2.10 meters high. The ball used is between 68 and 70 centimeters in circumference and is made of a flexible material.
