O "International News Watch" project, to check of fake news, Developed by students from the Centro de Excelência Atheneu Sergipense, a full-time high school in Aracaju (SE), it stands out for awakening the critical side of young people in the academic space.
The aim of the project is promote digital literacy and the formation of students as educators of their communities, encouraging them to share truthful information and the fight fake news through the news check. The work is the result of an elective discipline at the school and is part of a course completion project
The initiative is carried out in partnership with the International Relations course at the Federal University of Sergipe (UFS).
Today, May 17th, we celebrate the world internet day. The Internet Day is currently taking place at the Atheneu Sergipense school.
The students invited specialists in digital security and law to discuss solutions for the protection of children and adolescents on the internet.

Fake news check project
The fake news checking project produced by the students involves selecting news, carrying out investigations and checks, along the lines of what happens at Agência Lupa, specialized in checking News.
this kind of work makes students protagonists of the production process, stimulating the development of critical and creative skills, as well as contributing to citizenship education.
"Within the model's multidisciplinary pedagogical proposals, this initiative seeks to teach essential skills for living in society. According to the Law of Guidelines and Bases of National Education (LDB), one of the objectives of basic education is to qualify students for the exercise of citizenship. So, how can the school guide the issue in society? I think one of the ways is to talk, but also to listen to young people about problems that affect them".

According to Rafael Souza Gama, a 3rd year high school student, works like this help students engage in curricular activities and exercise a vision for the future.
"Studying and understanding the polarization of fake news allows us to work with the truth and communicate ethically and cohesively with the world. Therefore, the project has everything to do with my life project. I want to graduate in Medicine and work with social activism. I want to be able to care for and help people closely, participating in educational awareness initiatives, because I recognize that through education we can transform the world".

A differential of this project is to encourage high school students to play active roles in society, in works that go beyond the limits of the classroom.
Student Maria Eduarda Feitosa reports that from initiatives like this, they realize how important young people are and that they should be heard by the communities.
"I believe that the observatory It is an extremely important tool nowadays., mainly because bloom in young people the protagonist side, which understands its place in society and how it can use the internet to work on important issues for the present and the future", argues Maria Eduarda.
For students who wish to pursue a career in education such as Pedro Daniel Vasconcelos' house, this type of activity connects with the young person's life project. "By deepening my knowledge about fake news, I know that I will also be preparing myself to be a professional who in the future know how to recognize false information and don't pass it on to the students, or better yet, teach them to check the news too", comment.
