The National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep) released today, September 16, preliminary data from the 2022 School Census.
According to the data, there was a drop of 5.3% in the number of enrollments in secondary education in 2022. The research brings the impacts of the pandemic on Brazilian basic education.
The sense application has been structured to maintain comparability with previous editions. Data are from the Basic Education Assessment System (Saeb) 2021 and the Basic Education Development Index (Ideb) 2021.
Impacts
The survey showed that 92% of basic education schools adopted remote or blended teaching strategies and 14.45% adjusted the end date of the school year.
In addition, 72.3% of schools resorted to curriculum reorganization to prioritize skills and content.
The last two editions of the survey had already identified an abrupt growth in public network pass rates between 2020 and 2021, when compared to the pre-pandemic period.
2022 school census
Inep applied the Saeb 2021 between November 8th and December 10th, in more than 72,000 public and private schools in all units of the Federation. Approximately 5.3 million students were assessed.
In all, 96.9% of the 254,728 classes and 97.1% of the 74,539 planned schools participated. Public students in the 5th and 9th grades of elementary school and in the 3rd and 4th grades of high school were assessed in Portuguese and mathematics.
Do not stop now... There's more after the publicity ;)
Portuguese language and mathematics tests were also applied for the 2nd year of elementary school in a sample of public and private schools. The areas of human sciences and natural sciences in the 9th grade of elementary school were evaluated on a sample basis.
Total enrollment numbers
All basic education totaled 35,760,081 enrollments in 2022. The data covers teaching as a whole, from kindergartens to high school.
Another data revealed by the census is the 10.5% increase in students enrolled in full-time schools.
The final survey data will be released in December. Only then will it be possible to make a comparison with previous years. However, the previous data can already be accessed in the Inep website.
It is also possible to consult performance information at the national level, by state and municipality. Clippings according to the education network (federal, state and municipal), location (rural or urban) and area (capital or interior) are also available.
