Nazi salute in SC: see what the Public Ministry says

Bolsonarist demonstrators performed yesterday (02) a gesture similar to the Nazi salute "Sieg Heil" during a protest against the president's electoral victory Lula.

The act took place in the city of São Miguel do Oeste, in Santa Catarina, in front of the 14th Mechanized Cavalry Regiment, from the Army base in the city.

The images quickly went viral on social media. It is possible to see dozens of people with their arms outstretched during the execution of the National Anthem. The act is similar to the Nazi salute used in the 1930s and 1940s, by Nazis and by himself. Adolf Hitler.

Is Nazi saluting a crime?

In Brazil, the apology for Nazism is a crime, established in Law No. 9,459 of 1997. The penalty is a fine and five years imprisonment.

The Public Prosecutor's Office of Santa Catarina even issued a note claiming to investigate what happened. However, in another note, he stated that in a preliminary investigation he did not identify any intention of apology for Nazism by the demonstrators in the extreme west of Santa Catarina.

According to the note, the gesture performed by the protesters was executed after being summoned by the announcer of the event, a businessman place, to extend their hand over the shoulder of the person in front of them or, if there wasn't one, for them to extend their arm, in order to "emanate positive energies". Israeli Confederation 

Through a note on social media, the Israeli Confederation of Brazil (Conib) repudiated the Nazi acts in São Miguel do Oeste. The confederation called for the investigation and punishment of the acts.
