Indonesia is made up of a large archipelago of more than 270 million people, and is frequently hit by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis due to its location, called
"Fire ring", an arc of volcanoes and fault lines in the Pacific Basin.Do not stop now... There's more after the publicity ;)
However, experts comment that it is unusual for tremors to be felt in Jakarta.
Earlier this year, in February, a magnitude 6.2 earthquake took the lives of at least 25 people and injured more than 460 in West Sumatra province. In 2021, in January, a magnitude 6.2 earthquake killed more than 100 people and injured nearly 6,500 in the province of West Sulawesi.
A strong earthquake and tsunami at the Indian Ocean in 2004 they killed almost 230,000 people in more than ten countries in the region, but most of the deaths occurred in Indonesia.
