Mastitis. Mastitis: inflammation in the breast glands

protection click fraud

Mastitis is an inflammation of the breast glands caused by the accumulation of milk, which usually occurs in the postpartum period, especially during the first pregnancy.

It is related to several factors, such as: the delicate skin of the nipple, the woman's inexperience in relation to breastfeeding, excessive milk production and the way the baby takes the nipple.

It can happen in one or both breasts, and the characteristics are: red, swollen, painful and hot breasts. Symptoms such as fever and chills may also appear, similar to a case of flu.

This inflammation usually appears between the second and third week after delivery.

Inflammation can be prevented from pregnancy by sunbathing on the breasts before 10 am and after 4 pm, as the sun's rays give the skin resistance.

Treatment is with antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs and warm compresses.
