Ademar de Almeida Gonzaga

Actor, journalist, critic, director, producer and filmmaker born in Rio de Janeiro, RJ, pioneer of Brazilian cinema, founder of the first cineclube do Brasil (1912) and creator of the most complete studio of his time, Cinédia, a studio in operation until today, although serving more to productions of television. He was a critic of the magazines Palcos & Telas and Paratodos and founder of the magazine Cinearte (1926-1942).
Researcher, historian, producer, screenwriter, actor and film director, he has been to Hollywood three times to learn the technique and acquire equipment for his productions. He was Paulo Emílio Salles Gomes' partner in a basic thesis book on Humberto Mauro, the Cataguazes cycle and the importance of Cinearte. He wrote, produced and directed nearly forty films, some of which became classics such as Humberto Mauro's Ganga Bruta (1933), Bonequinha de silk (1936), by Oduvaldo Viana, O samba da vida (1937) and O cortiço (1945), both by Luís de Barros, and Pureza (1940), by Chianca de Garcia.


Among the films he directed were successful Human Barro (1929), Hello, Hello, Carnaval (1936), Forbidden Romance (1944) and Minimum Salary (1970). He died in Rio de Janeiro and ten years later his daughter, Alice, organized the book-album 50 anos de Cinédia, and also produced in partnership with Carlos Aquino, Gonzaga Por Ele Same (1988), which shows its importance within the pioneering spirit of Brazilian cinema, the films produced (1930-1960), the backstage of Cinearte magazine etc.
