Alphonsus de Guimaraens Filho

Brazilian poet and civil servant born in Mariana, Minas Gerais, whose poetry had a high mystical involvement, with images intertwined with light and restlessness, and metaphysical experiences. Descendant of a family of tradition in Brazilian literature, he was the son of the poet Afonso Henriques da Costa Guimarães, Alphonsus de Guimaraens (1870-1921), who published the complete work (1955-1960), brother of writer João Alphonsus and grand-nephew of Bernardo Guimaraes.
He studied in Belo Horizonte, where he earned a bachelor's degree in law (1940) from the University of Belo Horizonte. While still a student, he entered journalism (1934) as editor of the Diário da Tarde, in Belo Horizonte, and director of Rádio Inconfidência, and began his career as a public administrator (1936). He worked for Juscelino Kubitschek in the government of Minas Gerais and in the presidency of the republic, and was an attorney at the Federal Court of Accounts.
In his work, Lume de Estrelas (1940), A Cidade do Sul (1948), The Brother (1950), The Myth and the Creator (1954), Sonnets with Dedication (1956), Reunited Poems (1960), Poetic Anthology (1963), Novos Poemas (1968), Poems da Ante-Hora (1971), Absurda Fábula (1973), Água do Tempo (1977) and Só a Noite é que Dawn (1977).
