To understand the difference between Pure and Applied Chemistry, let's make a comparison between Science and Technology. "Pure chemistry" is similar to science, in which the main objective is the acquisition of knowledge, studying about the composition of the Universe, discovering new substances, in short, studying without an application practice. “Applied chemistry”, as the name itself portrays, is the application of knowledge, it is like the technology that uses science to achieve a specific objective.
So let's talk about the field of work of each of these sciences.
The "pure chemistry" encompasses the research phase, is administered at Universities by researchers (professors) who want to collaborate with scientific discoveries or simply with knowledge on the part of their students. The studies are carried out at the University itself, in a joint action between students and professors. At the end of the research, the works are published in newspapers, magazines, periodicals, education portals, etc.
The "applied chemistry" has its professionals working for private companies, and the way of working is research in the short term, for example, collaboration for the development of a vaccine aimed at curing a Epidemic. Therefore, it is the direct application of chemistry for the benefit of man.
Perhaps you've heard of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, or simply IUPAC. It is an international non-governmental organization (NGO), dedicated to the advancement of chemistry, which was created in March 1919, in Geneva. It is the recognized authority in the development of standards for the naming (nomenclature) of chemical compounds.
