Kilometers or Miles?

The kilometer and the mile are units of length used to represent medium and large distances. The mile is adopted in English-speaking countries such as England and the United States. In the case of Brazil, the unit adopted is the kilometer, representing distances between municipalities and states. We relate the two length measurements, confirming that 1 mile is approximately 1,609 kilometers or 1609 meters. The symbols used are m for miles and km for kilometers.
Therefore, for the conversion, we just use a simple rule of three relating the following terms:
1 mile stands for 1,609 kilometers.
Example 1
A car traveled the distance between two cities that corresponds to 24 miles. Determine the distance traveled by the car in kilometers.
1 mile 1,609 kilometers
24 miles x kilometers
x = 1,609 * 24
x = 38.6 km (approximately)
Example 2

The distance between two cities is 400 kilometers. Calculate, in miles, the distance between them.
1 mile 1,609 kilometers
x miles 400 kilometers
1,609 * x = 400
x = 400 / 1.609
x = 248.6 miles (approximately).
