Brazil holds an infinity of natural resources: one of them is ore. The country stands out mainly in the production of iron, bauxite (aluminum), manganese and niobium.
O iron it is the main ore destined for export in Brazil, its extraction takes place especially in Minas Gerais, in the Quadrilátero Ferrífero; in Pará, in the Serra dos Carajás; and in Mato Grosso do Sul, in Maciço do Urucum. Currently the production is approximately 235 million tons per year, the country ranks second in the production of this ore worldwide.
THE bauxite is extracted in Serra do Oriximiná, in Pará, the state is the main producer and has the highest concentration of this ore in the country. Annual production is around 17.4 million tons. Brazil acts as the third largest producer on a global scale.
Approximately 1.3 million tons of manganese and this production volume makes the country rank third in world production. The main deposits are in Serra dos Carajás, Quadrilátero Ferrífero and Maciço do Urucum. Countries like Japan and the United States import almost 50% of the total national production.
The states of Minas Gerais and Goiás account for a large part of the production of niobium, which reaches 38 thousand tons a year, which makes the country the largest producer in the world. This ore is widely used in the manufacture of state-of-the-art equipment.
