Thoracic Arachnoiditis it is an inflammation that affects the arachnoid in the region of the thoracic spine. Different causes can be associated with the development of arachnoiditis, such as infections and surgical procedures. The person with the problem may experience severe pain, weakness, difficulty getting around, and loss of bladder and bowel control. Treatment varies from person to person and depends, among other factors, on the degree of inflammation.

Thoracic Arachnoiditis Summary
Arachnoiditis is inflammation of the arachnoid membrane.
Arachnoid is one of the membranes collectively known as the meninges.
The role of meninges is to ensure the protection of the central nervous system.
Arachnoiditis can cause pain, numbness, loss of reflexes, and weakness.
It can have different causes, such as infection, spinal surgery and intrathecal administration (directly into the subarachnoid space) of medications.
When arachnoiditis is located in the region of the thoracic spine, it is called thoracic arachnoiditis.

meninges
Before we know what arachnoiditis is, we must understand what meninges are. The meninges are connective tissue membranes that protect the central nervous system, that is, the brain and the spinal cord. Three membranes are collectively called meninges:The Dura mater, The arachnoid and The pia mater.
THE last meáto have is the outermost meninge and is formed by connective tissue dense. Between the dura mater and the pia mater, the arachnoid is located. THE arachnoid it has a membrane-shaped portion, which is in contact with the dura mater, and another portion formed by beams that connect this meninges to the pia mater. The space between the beams is known as the subarachnoid space and contains cerebrospinal fluid. More internally is the pia mater, which stands out for being highly vascularized. What is arachnoiditis?
Arachnoiditis consists of inflammation, scarring and thickening of the arachnoid membrane, one of the meninges. Arachnoiditis can occur as a result of different situations, such as surgeries, infections, intrathecal drug administration, use of contrast agents for myelography and others traumas. Arachnoiditis can cause severe pain, numbness, weakness, tingling, loss of reflexes, lack of coordinationand loss of bladder and bowel control.
For the diagnosis of arachnoiditis, the physician must perform the physical examination of the patient and indicate tests such as radiography and magnetic resonance. Other tests can be performed in order to rule out other diseases. After diagnosis, it is important to start treatment, which varies from one person to another.
Treatment includes medications and surgeries. The surgeries are not performed in all patients and are aimed at removing the scars formed in the arachnoid, which can compress the spinal cord and nerve roots.
What is Thoracic Arachnoiditis?
Thoracic arachnoiditis is a type of arachnoiditis, located in the chest region.. As arachnoiditis affects the arachnoid, it can occur in different parts, such as in the region of the brain and in the lumbar and cervical spine. The term thoracic therefore only indicates where arachnoiditis is occurring.
