1st step: reflect on what is "linguistic prejudice"

Country language is the target of linguistic prejudice

The first step on the path to a successful essay is to reflect on what you know about the problem presented.

In the essay-argumentative essays you come across a problem, develop your ideas about him and, in the end, he has to present a solution. So here we go:

Linguistic prejudice is the existing discrimination between speakers of the same language, where there is no respect for linguistic variations, such as accents, regionalisms, dialects, slang and other differences in the speech of a given group.”

(Taken from the website significas.com.br)

This type of prejudice is rooted in cultural and social issues, in addition to which, some speakers do not recognize the dynamic character of the language, which evolves over time.

Add, still, the derogatory judgment of uses - such as regionalisms - for not being included in the normative grammar.

In Brazil, linguistic prejudice is very present, mainly due to the size of our country. Thus, unfortunately it is common to hear inhabitants of capitals mock the way inhabitants of the interior speak.

It is very important to read and be aware of current issues and thus reduce the risk of having to produce a text on a subject that you are totally oblivious to.

Anyway, if you're caught by surprise, you can consult the motivational texts that appear in the Enem test. They have the function of setting the participants up in relation to the theme of the essay and they usually even present data that can be useful in their textual production. However, you must be careful: under no circumstances can these texts be copied, under penalty of getting a zero grade.

The success of a good essay depends on your planning, so make an outline with the problem that will be addressed in the text, with the points that you will develop and with the solution that you will present.

See the structure of a essay-argumentative text:

  • Introduction (one paragraph is enough): presentation of the problem;
  • Development (two paragraphs is usually ideal): reflection on the problem, exposure of data and examples.
  • Conclusion (a paragraph is usually enough): solution to the problem, following what was exposed in the previous paragraphs.

3rd step: write your essay

Structured text, it's time to write. Remember that the essay must be written in a formal way, with a vocabulary suitable for the situation.

Cohesion and coherence they are golden keys to the success of a text. With them, reading flows and the reader is convinced that their ideas make sense.

As the essay is an opportunity for the Enem participant to show their cultural background and their knowledge in various areas, it is interesting that the text includes scholars. Mention what they thought or wrote about a topic and add quotes.
