Electromagnetic waves are those that result from the release of electrical and magnetic energy sources together.
When it moves fast, with the speed of light, the energy released looks like a wave. For this reason, it is called the electromagnetic wave.
Electromagnetic waves are transversal, that is, they are directed perpendicular to the propagation direction.
Types of Electromagnetic Waves
There are 7 types of electromagnetic waves: wavesinradio,microwave,infra-red,lightvisible,ultraviolet,raysx and raysgamma.
What determines its classification is the frequency and oscillation with which the waves are emitted and also their length. The higher the frequency, the shorter the length of a gravitational wave.
The waves are measured by the electromagnetic spectrum. Through the ranges of this mechanism it is possible to verify the distribution of the intensity of electromagnetism.

RaysUltraviolet | Ultraviolet energy is located next to visible light, which is the center of the electromagnetic spectrum. |
Raysx | They are located just after gamma rays in the range of the electromagnetic spectrum. X-ray radiation is invisible to the naked eye. |
Raysgamma | Gamma rays are at one end of the spectrum. It is the type of wave that has the highest frequency, so its length is minuscule. |
Where they are?
Electromagnetic waves propagate in a vacuum at all times. That's because everything that exists has electromagnetism.
THE electricity it arises from the agitation of the atoms that are in the formation of all bodies. Magnetism arises from the movement of this electrical charge and, as a result, electromagnetic waves arise.
Many things we use on a daily basis work through electromagnetic waves. Examples are: radio, television, cell phone, microwave, remote control, wireless internet, bluetooth, etc.
And what are Mechanical Waves?
While electromagnetic waves do not need a material medium to propagate, mechanical waves necessarily need.
This is the case, for example, with the wired telephone. The wire is the medium used for the mechanical wave to travel its path and transport energy.
Cell phones, on the other hand, have no wires. They make use of electromagnetic waves.
