THE Misanthropy or Anthropophobia, unlike philanthropy, designates the aversion or hatred for human beings or humanity in general, whether on a social, cultural, religious, economic level, etc.
In other words, misanthropy involves a general antipathy towards humanity and society.
In the area of mental health, this concept is considered a disorder that is currently being discussed in the fields of psychology and social sciences.
Characteristics of misanthropy
Whoever practices misanthropy is called misanthrope and, in many cases, this problem can lead to more serious conditions such as depression, suffering or even suicide.
Misanthropes are people who have frequent mood swings and who prefer to live in isolation, as they suffer from a repulsion to social (anti-social) contact.
Apparently, they don't suffer from any disorder. But, they are very suspicious, ironic and sarcastic individuals, who feel superior and prefer not to strengthen ties with people, thus avoiding society (fear of disillusionment).
Interesting to note that many misanthropes consider themselves "perfect" and have this posture to preserve themselves.
They are usually lonely, introverted, reserved, proud, perfectionist, observant and embittered people, who have no friends, only superficial relationships, although they usually live with their relatives.
Experts indicate several causes for these people to become misanthropes, which can be developed from childhood, for example, disappointments in social relationships, lack of trust, envy, among others.
On the other hand, scholars on the subject believe that these people have great intelligence and creativity, as they remain in "their world" for a long time.
There are still those who believe that misanthropy is not a problem but a "lifestyle" or a characteristic of someone's personality.
Curiosity
From the Greek, the term “misanthropy” is the union of the words “mis” (hate) and “anthropy" (men). By extension, misanthropy directed at women is called Misogyny and, in turn, male aversion is called Misandry.
