Textual genres. Characteristics of textual genres

Everywhere we go, whether at home, at school, on the way we go from one place to another, in the amusement park, in the mall, in other words, in many others, we come across a variety of texts, isn't it true? However, we are not always curious to analyze them, taking into account their characteristics.

But through this encounter, you will discover the importance of understanding a little more about these texts. To begin with, you must understand some important aspects, such as:

The texts consist of different characteristics

• In what context, that is, in what situation was a given text written, produced?
• Who is it written for, that is, who will be the most interested people to read it?
• Who wrote it?
• What are the intentions, the objectives, that led the issuer (who wrote it) to produce it?

The intentions of a text will be many, the interlocutors will be varied (the people for whom a certain type of text is intended), and it may have been produced in different situations.

So let's analyze the purposes:

a report is produced in order to keep us informed about events in society, on a daily basis; an instruction manual, a medicine leaflet, and a cooking recipe serve to guide us about something; a pamphlet and an advertisement are intended to draw our attention to a certain subject, such as advertisements, billboards, among other examples.

Thus, depending on the elements analyzed above (who writes, who writes for, in what situation, what are the intentions determined by the message), we have the concept of textual genres. So, so that you can better understand this definition, please note:

Textual genres are the concepts that apply to different texts with common characteristics in relation to language and the content itself.
