Remember when we studied the difference between class and function?
Well, class represents those ten grammar classes, and function is that performed by words when they are inserted in a clause. In this way, let's analyze the following statement together, in order to find out what is the class and what is the function of all the words of which they are part:
The boys play ball daily.
Well, according to the grammatical class we have:
os – definite article
boys - noun
play – verb
ball - noun
daily - adverb
Now realize that “who” played a certain role, when it comes to the role, will play another. Let's analyze?
the boys - simple guy
play - verbal predicate
ball – direct object, as it completes the sense of the verb to play (play)
daily - adverbial time adjunct
