Transgenics. Development of transgenics

In the relentless pursuit of increased production, rising profits, lower costs and being able to compete in an increasingly demanding and competitive, man has put his intellectual capacity in favor of the development of research and studies with the intention of achieving improvements in profitability agricultural.
In this sense, transgenics were developed, which correspond to organisms that contain in their essence genes from other organisms, which is possible through Genetic Engineering. The main objective is the search for improvement of a product that has new characteristics in relation to those that are part of its original nature to generate a product capable of obtaining more rustic and extreme aspects. productivity. Techniques for manipulating recombinant DNA have been around since the 70s.
Biotechnology has been of great value in agricultural and livestock production, as it offers the possibility of producing differentiated products for the consumer, such as pork with less cholesterol. In the case of food, these procedures are intended to obtain a greater amount of nutrients and at the same time immune to pests.

Despite apparently not offering any kind of risk, the manipulation of genes can cause serious complications, having in since very little is known about this subject, as research in this regard exists for only approximately three decades. Thus, it is not clear what are the reactions and consequences that can occur if a organism that receives a foreign gene develop a rejection due to the complexity of beings alive. This is a reality, as it has been shown in genetically modified pigs that to gain weight received genes from other organisms and contracted arthritis and other complications in their condition. clinical.
Transgenics are also called GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms), they produce plants that are adapted to different climates, soils, among other elements.
Transgenics raise a lot of controversy around the world, especially when it comes to food intended for humans, in reason for the uncertainty about what can happen in the human body if there is the consumption of products derived from the alteration genetics.
Faced with this controversy, Europe does not accept the consumption of this type of product in urban areas, while the Americans are in favor, for claiming that the improvement produces organisms immune to pests and, in this way, avoids the consumption of pesticides used in the combat.
In short, what must be taken care of is caution until the scientific class really knows whether or not transgenics cause side effects in those who consume them.
