Why do we have thrush?

Do you know those small sores that appear in the mouth and cause pain, especially when eating? They are called thrush. But, after all, why do they appear? How can we prevent and treat them?

First, we must make it clear that thrush, also called aphthous ulcers, are not contagious lesions! These wounds, which have a rounded shape, reddish edges and a whiter center, as we will see below, have unknown causes. They are often less than a centimeter in size and appear as if they were a crater, with a small depression visible in the center.

Canker sores can appear multiple or isolated and usually are found on the inside of the mouth, as in the gums, palate (roof of mouth) and tongue. Very rarely these lesions appear in the throat, however, they can also appear in this region.

These injuries cause severe pain, especially when eating. Pain can be lessened by avoiding very hot or spicy foods. In some cases, the pain is so intense that, even without the touch of any food, the cold sore is uncomfortable.

Canker sores, which usually heal on their own, last seven to ten days and leave no scar. If the problem persists for longer than that, it is necessary to see a doctor or dentist. In addition, a consultation is also required in cases where thrush appears frequently.

despite the specialists are not sure what causes thrush, this problem is closely related to stressful situations, cigarette use, allergies, mouth lesions caused by braces, for example, and nutritional deficiencies, such as lack of vitamins B12, C, zinc and iron. It is also believed that some pathologies, such as inflammatory bowel diseases, reflux and some immunological diseases, may be related to the appearance of these lesions.

O cold sore treatment, In most cases, it is not necessary, however, some medications may be indicated to reduce pain. Generally, the use of anti-inflammatory drugs, anesthetics and that the patient avoid those foods that accentuate the pain is indicated. It is also important to perform a good hygiene oral and not using homemade recipes, which can increase the sensation of pain.

as a way of cold sore prevention, it is recommended not to eat too many spiced foods and acidic fruits. In addition, it is important to have a healthy diet, with plenty of vitamins and minerals, as well as trying to lead a life without too much stress.

Despite causing great discomfort, canker sores are injuries that do not pose a health risk.

Attention! Don't confuse canker sores with herpes, which is caused by a virus and is contagious, unlike canker sores. Also, herpes appears in regions outside the mouth.
