Did you know that our Brazilian literature is one of the most praised in the world? Well, there are books and authors for all tastes, and there is also literature made especially for little people. In Brazil, children's literature has important names, such as Tatiana Belinky, Pedro Bandeira, Ruth Rocha, among many others who have dedicated themselves and still dedicate themselves to producing quality work for children and adolescents.
Today we are going to talk about one of the most important writers in children's literature, her name is Ana Maria Machado. Ana Maria was born in Rio de Janeiro on December 24, 1941 and for over forty years has been writing books for children and adults. She graduated in Literature and was a university professor, having taught at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and also at PUC-Rio. She is an award-winning writer, her more than one hundred published books have won prizes such as the Jabuti, the most traditional book award in Brazil, and also the Machado de Assis Award, from the Brazilian Academy of Letters.
And speaking of the Brazilian Academy of Letters, Ana Maria Machado is among the select group of Brazilian writers who occupy its famous chairs. The carioca occupies the number 1 chair and, between 2011 and 2013, was president of the institution. Her work is recognized nationally and internationally, as in 2000, Ana Maria received the Hans Christian Andersen Prize, the most important prize in children's literature in the world!
