The country. Definition and characteristics of a country

The country is a territory delimited by and from power relations, having to present autonomous territory, government and population.
Currently (2011), the United Nations (UN) considers the existence of 192 countries. However, we can highlight others two that are not on that list: Vatican and Taiwan.
The countries are spread over five continents: Africa, America (North America, South America and Central America), Asia, Europe and Oceania. The African continent has the largest number of countries: 53. Oceania has only 14.
There are big differences between countries in the world, like in the physical, population, political, cultural, religious, economic aspects, among others. The Brazilian territory, for example, is much larger compared to other countries in Latin America, and some of its states are larger than countries in this subcontinent.

Brazil is a country on the American continent. And it is part of the group of countries in Latin America

Despite the differences, there needs to be respect between countries, avoiding conflicts and guaranteeing world peace. Another important point is that rich and developed countries help the poorest countries economically,

a fact that will provide better living conditions for millions of people.
Aiming to facilitate international economic relations, several countries have formed economic blocs. In Europe there is the European Union (EU), considered the most dynamic economic bloc in the world. Brazil, together with Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay, is part of the Southern Common Market (Mercosur).
