What time do you get to school?
At 7am? Or would it be 7am?
As you can see, we have two alternatives: the first one is represented by the indication of hours with “a” followed by the accent indicating the back; while in the second there is no such indication.
Which of the two cases is adequate to the norms that govern our dear Portuguese language? This is what we will see from now on:
* When it comes to the indication of a certain time, it is always necessary to use the accent indicator of the crasis in front of the hours, that is:
I arrive at school at 7am.
We will travel at 6:30 pm.
The session will start at 12:00.
* In cases related to hours expressed in the singular, such as "one hour", we know that the element that accompanies the noun “hour” is not an article, but a numeral, which is equivalent to saying “the first hour". Therefore, always prefer to say:
I will start my research at one o'clock in the afternoon.
* Well, so far you could see that the use of the back letter was the result of the fusion of the article “a” + the preposition “a”. But does the crasis occur in cases related to the presence of other prepositions?
Know that in front of the prepositions “to”, “from”, “after” and “between”, the use of the crasis is not allowed. Let's go to cases?
The tour is planned for at 2:00.
recreation will begin after at 3:00.
We are waiting since at 8:00.
we will rest in between 4am and 6am.
