When we are children, and we are learning to speak, we form a set of words that are stored in our memory. The more we hear stories and the more people talk to us, the more words we gather.
These words are used and, throughout life, new ones are accumulated, which we learn.
This amount of words is called vocabulary.
listening to stories helps with language
The words are listed in the dictionaries in alphabetical order, but we do not use all of them, as this would be impossible.
On a daily basis, we express ourselves through the words that are most common in the forms of communication.
It is important to form a good vocabulary, as some moments require the use of more elaborate terms, such as in studies and at work.
Search the dictionary for words you don't know
Therefore, it is important to have the habit of reading, to form a good vocabulary throughout your life, and not have difficulties when hearing more difficult and little used words.
When you find or hear a word you don't know, look up its meaning in the dictionary, as this will enrich your vocabulary.
