When we drink a drink made from fruit, we call it juice. However, this term is often misused as there are several types of these drinks. Next, we'll learn the difference between juice, soda and nectar, drinks that are very common in our daily lives.
→ Juice
Juice is an unfermented drink made exclusively from fruit. matureand healthy, and sometimes water, therefore having a large amount of nutrients. Juices do not have coloring, flavoring or large amounts of sugar, which can be added, but cannot reach more than 10% by weight. When presenting sugar, the juice will be accompanied by the term sweetened.
Juices are a very healthy option, especially when it comes to whole juice. This type of juice has only the amount of sugar present in the fruit, not being added any more.
→ Nectar
Nectar is a drink that is diluted and, like juice, unfermented. This drink, however, has a large amount of sugar, since it has the sugar contained in the fruit itself plus a value added by the manufacturer.
The nectar, so called, must have a minimum amount of juice or pulp, which varies according to the
type of fruit analyzed. Peach nectar, for example, must have at least 40% juice or pulp. Orange nectar, in turn, currently has 30% juice or pulp, a figure that should be increased by January 2016 to 50%.
Juices are normally formed only by ripe and healthy fruit
→ refreshment
Soft drinks are unfermented beverages that contain the least amount of pulp or fruit extract of the three types described. Typically, the amount of juice presented in this type of drink is 10% to 20%. This drink, which may or may not contain sugar, stands out for the presence of coloring and flavoring.
→ Which drink is the healthiest?
Looking at the three types of drinks, it is clear that juices are the healthiest option for everyone. This is due to the fact that sugar, for example, is directly related to obesity and digestive problems. Dyes and preservatives, in turn, are closely related to allergies and should be avoided.
