Web site is a word that results from the juxtaposition of English words web (network) and site (site, place). In the context of electronic communications, Web site and site have the same meaning and are used to refer to a page or a grouping of related pages, accessible on the Internet through a specific address. In European Portuguese it is also common to use the term website or electronic site.
For example, the information that is currently being read is available on the Web site www.osignificado.com.br.
There are several types of websites available on the internet: institutional, informative, personal, community, etc. Each Web site it has an objective, according to the audience it is aimed at. It's the purpose of site that directs the work of the Webdesigner (the professional who creates the Web site).
On the page or pages of a Web site text, images, videos or digital animations can be placed. These pages are loaded via the HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) network protocol and are viewed via a browser (browser).
One Web site it can have a static form, its extension being .html because it uses the language or HTML code; or a dynamic, interactive form, with JavaScript and PHP being the most used.
