History of BJJ (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu)

Jiu Jitsu started with Mitsuyo Maeda, who was one of the top five judo experts, and was sent abroad to spread the art around the world. Maeda arrived in Brazil in 1941, where he made a great friendship with Gastão Gracie, an important businessman, who helped to establish Maeda, and how Gratefully, Maeda offered to teach judo to Gastão's eldest son, Carlos Gracie, who ended up passing on his knowledge to his brothers.

At the age of fourteen, the youngest of the brothers, Helio Gracie began teaching Jiu-Jitsu in a house in Botafogo, a neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro, until the brothers began to develop Gracie Jiu Jitsu as an adaptation of Judo. BJJ is closely related to the Gracie family from the beginning to the present day.
