pimping is a criminal practice that consists of exploiting, encouraging or facilitating prostitution in any form or aspect, whether or not there is direct mediation or profit motive.

Pimping comprises any action that aims to facilitate or promote the practice of acts of libidinal or prostitution of other people, or take advantage of it, which is a serious social problem.

The crime of pimping does not punish the practice of prostitution itself, but any conduct that encourages, favors and facilitates such practice, with profit intention or professionally (legally known like pimping questuary).

This crime is typified in the article 227 to 230 of the Brazilian Penal Code. According to the law, the penalty can range from one to three years in prison; if the crime is committed against people over 14 and under 18, imprisonment can vary between two and five years; however, if it is committed followed by violence or threats, the sentence can be up to eight years in prison.
