Assumption and Understanding

An assumption, as said, is a clear idea that can be assumed, that it is possible to suppose. On the other hand, the implied is an insinuation within the statement, something that can be deduced from the information that is provided.

A sentence can have several presuppositions and inferences, and in the latter case, the implication depends on the interpretation that each individual is capable of making.

In the sentence: "Joao can no longer drive a car", the assumption is that John used to drive a car. As for the implied, there may be several. Maybe João doesn't drive anymore because his driver's license was revoked or because he had a serious accident. There are several possibilities for interpretation in this case.
