Meaning of Containment (What it is, Concept and Definition)

The containment is the action or effect of repressing, damming something. It means something that is contained, under control and does not move.

In times of economic crisis, it is common to hear about cost containment or cost containment, which means holding back unnecessary purchases. It means saving on consumption, opting for cheaper brands and saving quantities, without waste.

Another example is the expression water containment, when a natural resource dam is formed for different reasons.

In the sense of contention, it means getting into a fight, debate or dispute. As in the example: "A contention over politics broke out between the two friends."

Orthodontic retention is an artifact used at the end of treatment by those who used fixed appliances. It is a metal rod behind the teeth, combined with the mobile retaining device, which ensures that they will not move after the fixed one is removed.

In Civil Engineering, containment is also a type of wall or structure to hold slopes and landslide regions.
