jah has its origin in the Hebrew word Yah which is the abbreviation for Yahweh (Jehovah, Yahweh). In the Bible, the words Jah, Yahweh and Jehovah are used to represent the personal name of God.
The God designated in the Bible is considered by Jews and Christians to be the only true God.
In the English version of the word hallelujah (hallelujah), it is possible to find the term jah in the second part of the word, giving the meaning of "worship God!"
The names of some important biblical characters such as Isaiah, Malachi and Jeremiah also come from the Hebrew word Jah.
This is because names with Hebrew origin and which have the ending in "ias" when translated into Portuguese, derive from the term.
Who is it jah in the Rastafarian movement?
The Rastafarian movement began in Jamaica during the 1930s, after a prophecy made by Marcus Garvey, a Jamaican communicator, entrepreneur and activist.
Garvey led an organization known as the Universal Association for Black Progress (AUPN), whose intent was to unify blacks with their homeland.
Marcus Garvey.
Garvey preached in one of his speeches: "Look to Africa, where a black king will be crowned, he will be your Redeemer." This statement became the basis of the Rastafarian movement.
The prophecy was quickly followed by the coronation of Emperor Haile Selassie I in Ethiopia. Rastafarians see this as the fulfillment of Garvey's prophecy.
Haile Selassie.
Haile Selassie is therefore considered by followers of the Rastafarian movement to be the Black Messiah, the Jah Rastafarian.
He is a figure of salvation and it is believed that he will redeem blacks from white suppressors by bringing them together in his homeland of Africa.
