Telemetry is a technological monitoring system, used for to command, measure or track back something the distance, through wireless communication (radio or satellite signals).
Etymologically, the word telemetry originated from the Greek tele, which means "remote", and metron, which means “measure”. In other words, telemetry is simply the measurement and analysis of data and information at a distance, in places where a cabling system, for example, would not be feasible.
This technology is used in geographically remote points or points that are in constant motion (such as cars, for example), collecting your information and transmitting it to a control center, which has the function of tracking and decoding this data.
Telemetry is usually defined as wireless data transmission, but it can also refer to contact over optical fiber, such as telephone or computer networks.
Currently, telemetry is applied in many fields, such as agriculture, meteorology, water and sewage treatment system, energy monitoring and so on.
Automotive Telemetry
Among the various uses of telemetry, its use in automotive vehicles is one of the main ones, especially during races and competitions, such as Formula 1, which requires constant monitoring of each of the components of the vehicle.
