Terrorism is the act of provoke terror in people through the use of physical or psychological violence, in order to intimidate a society and enforce fundamentalist ideologies, whether political, religious or otherwise.

The concept of modern terrorism emerged from the 19th century and presents itself as one of the greatest threats of the 21st century. However, the origin of terrorism goes back to the 1st century AD. C, when groups of radical Jews (known as hit men) attacked other citizens (Jews or non-Jews), simply because they did not share the same religious position as these.
Currently, with the development of technology and the media, terrorist practices start to have a global and less regional reach, as happened in the past. An example of a modern terrorist attack that marked the 21st century was the destruction of the World Trade Center (the "Twin Towers"), in Manhattan, United States, on September 11, 2001.
