Fozé is the name given to the place where a watercourse ends; where one river flows.
THE mouth of a river, that is, the place where the river empties, can be in another river, in a lake, in a lagoon, in the sea or in the ocean.
There are three main types of river mouths: estuary mouth, delta mouth and the mixed mouth.
THE estuary mouth it is the simple discharge of the river into a sea or ocean, through only one channel, as the mouth (the place of mouth) were an extension of the river itself.
THE delta mouth it is when the river flows into the sea or ocean through networks, when there is a branch and the emergence of several channels from the same river towards the mouth. In this type of mouth, the ramifications of the river help in the formation of small islands. For the formation of a delta mouth, some characteristics are needed:
- There can be no strong sea currents near the place where the river flows;
- Small difference between high tide and low tide;
- Presence of a coastal cord, which is formed by pieces left by maritime erosion (sand, stone, pebbles, etc.), which are brought by the river and deposited in the mouth bed. As the tide in this location is not very strong, these "dirt" end up forming the coastal cord.

Foz do Iguaçu
