Axe, in the Yoruba language, means power, energy or forces present in each being or in each thing. In Afro-Brazilian religions, the term represents the sacred energy of the orixás. Ashé can be represented by an object or a being that will be charged with the energy of the spirits honored in a religious ritual.

Axé is a musical genre that emerged in Bahia in the 1980s during Salvador's carnival revels. It is a mixture of musical rhythms such as frevo from Pernambuco, maracatu, reggae and forró. Axé conquered Brazil and established big names in the Brazilian and international music scene, such as Bahia singers Daniela Mercury, Ivete Sangalo, Margareth Menezes. Other representative names of axé that contributed to its development were the bands Chiclete com Banana, Asa de Águia, Araketo and also Netinho and Claudia Leitte.
