In Brazil, the proclamation of independence took place on September 7, 1822, when on the banks of the Ipiranga D. Pedro I uttered the words "Independence or Death" that became known as "Grito de Ipiranga". Thus, Brazil politically separated itself from Portugal, ceasing to be one of its colonies.
