The word retro is the shortened form of the term “retrogression”, alluding to the idea of what was left behind, as opposed to the process or future.
Retro culture encompasses a huge range of variations, ranging from musical styles, clothing (retro fashion or retro fashion), retro art, retro cars (retro cars), among other specific types of retro influences.
A given object is considered retro when it is inspired by the design or functioning of old and outdated styles, which usually belonged between the 1920s and 1960s.
There are people who are extremely passionate about the lifestyle or common objects of the past, point of feeling deep depression for not being able to adapt to the changes brought about with the years old.

Many people confuse these terms as synonyms, however there is a difference between the idea of retro and vintage.
The retro, as said, refers to the idea of what belongs to the past (usually between the 1920s and 1960), but which re-emerges in contemporaneity as a fashion trend, such as clothes, decorations, arts and etc.
The vintage is related to everything that is genuinely classic, ancient and usually extremely valuable.
