Damn it is a generic name given to all types of natural substance or not, which when introduced into the body causes physical or psychic changes.
In the areas of Medicine and Pharmacology, a drug is any substance that prevents or cures diseases by causing physiological changes in organisms.
In the current sense, the term “drug” generally refers to illicit substances that cause dependence, affect the Central Nervous System and modify the individual's sensations and behavior. Or even legal substances, those permitted by law, such as alcohol, tobacco and medicines that have a black label on their packaging.
Also called narcotics or narcotics, drugs can be:
- Natural: produced from plants, for example, the plant cannabis sativa the marijuana is extracted, the poppy flower is obtained, and so on.
- Semi-synthetic: produced from natural drugs, but undergo chemical processes in laboratories. Example: crack, cocaine, heroin etc.
- Synthetic: they are entirely produced in laboratories following specific techniques. Example: ecstasy, LSD, amphetamine etc.
Users of these drugs can be classified according to experience and consumption in: experimental, occasional, habitual or dependent. There are also abuse users and chronic users, who use drugs compulsively.
In general, drugs have a high capacity to cause chemical or psychological dependence in the individual, and can lead to death in case of excessive consumption (overdose).
Informally, the word “drug” is used to designate something without quality or of little use. It is also used as an exclamation to express displeasure or nervousness.
