Promiscuity is the characteristic of the promiscuous, which mixes haphazardly. It's a confusing coexistence between people. Promiscuity identifies what has no order, what is libertine or indistinct.

Sexual promiscuity is characterized by the constant exchange of partners. It is sexual freedom with different people, where everyone is subject to the risk of acquiring sexually transmitted diseases, including AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome).
An “open relationship”, where two people are involved but are “open” to other parallel relationships, is for many an act of promiscuity, where nobody belongs to anybody. Many people believe that in relationships where true love exists, it is impossible to practice an open relationship and are not in danger of falling into promiscuity.

According to a study published by an American university, variations in a specific gene – the receptor for dopamine D4 - would be associated with certain sexual behaviors, especially promiscuity and infidelity.
According to the study, the hypothesis is that people with a greater number of this gene would have a tendency to be sexually promiscuous.
