governance derives from the term government, and can have several interpretations, depending on the approach. According to the World Bank, “governance is the way in which the power é exercised in managing a country's social and economic resources for development, and the capacity of governments to to plan, formulate and program policies and fulfill functions”.
Governance can be synonymous with government, the sovereign body responsible for the general political conduct of a country, being the superior body of public administration. However, governance can also refer to the measures taken by the government to govern the country in question.
There are eight main characteristics of good governance: rule of law, transparency, responsibility, guidance by consensus, equality and inclusiveness, effectiveness and efficiency and accountability.
Corporate governance
There is also the corporate governance of companies, which is the set of processes, regulations, decisions, customs, ideas that show the way in which that company or society is directed or managed.
