Meaning of Equitable (What it is, Concept and Definition)

Equitativo is an adjective in the Portuguese language and refers to what it is fair, equal, impartial and equal.

According to the definition, being equitable is related to "being fair" in a moral and/or ethical sense. Be honest and impartial.

However, based on a philosophical analysis of the term, the Greek philosopher Aristotle says that "being fair" is superior to being fair.

For an individual to be considered fair, he must fully respect the rules and laws pre-established in a society, however, an equitable man, even when he does not follow the laws, can be considered fair. This is because Aristotle said that the equitable does not ignore the fact that, in some circumstances, laws can fail.

One example is the legend of Robin Hood, a hunter who stole from the rich to give to the poor. On the one hand, Robin was breaking the law by engaging in the illicit act of stealing, but he was stealing only from the King and member of the Court (ie, of the State) and gave all the money to the taxpayers, who need more. If the story is analyzed philosophically, the hunter shows a high level of equitable justice, in a forced attempt to institute an "equality" between both social and economic classes of its society.
