Zé povinho was a character created by the Portuguese caricaturist Rafael Bordalho Pinheiro, in 1875, in the political humor periodical, A Lanterna Mágica, in a cartoon entitled Portuguese Calendar, humorously criticizing the main social, political and economic problems of the parents. He became an identifying figure of the Portuguese people.
The ceramic image of the character, created by the caricaturist, can be found today at the Rafael Bordoalho Pinheiro Museum, in the parish of Campo Grande in Lisbon, Portugal.
