Latent means hidden, implied. The word latent is an adjective of two genders that qualifies what is hidden, what is not apparent.
In the figurative sense, latent is that which is disguised, disguised or pretended.
latent disease
Latent disease is one in which the agent (virus, bacteria, etc.) causing the disease remains inactive for some time. When it finds favorable conditions it will multiply and cause disease. Among the diseases that may remain latent in the body are tuberculosis, syphilis, AIDS and herpes.
