Meaning of Reverse Logistics (What it is, Concept and Definition)

Reverse logistics is an instrument of economic and social development that consists of a set of actions, procedures and methods used to enable the collection and return of solid waste in the sector business. This instrument aims to reuse waste for the company itself or for any other production cycle that has an appropriate final destination for the material collected.

This system was proposed in accordance with the National Solid Waste Policy, established by law 12,305 of August 2, 2010 and its implementation, which came into force in 2014. It is yet another mechanism for the sustainable development of the planet, as it enables the reuse and reduction in consumption of raw materials.

Among the concepts that this system introduces, the most important is the shared responsibility for the life cycle of the products, since the attribution of cleaning and urban solid waste management will be done individually and under the responsibility of all parties involved, whether consumers, entrepreneurs, manufacturers or merchants.

The system is then proposed with the objective of dealing mainly with the following products: tires; Batteries; pesticide packaging and residues; fluorescent, mercury and sodium vapor lamps; automotive lubricating oils; electronic and computer parts and equipment; and home appliances.

In this way, the system minimizes the volume of these residues and waste generated and reduces the impacts caused to human health and environmental quality.

The reverse logistics process also makes companies responsible and establishes a relationship between municipalities for waste management, where, for example, the producers of a electronic product will have to predict how returns, recycling and their proper environmental disposal will be carried out, especially those that can return the cycle productive.

In this system, it is now up to consumers to return the products that are most useful in certain specific posts, duly established by merchants and industries is now responsible for removing these products, with the intention of recycling them or reuse them. The Public Administration is responsible for creating consumer awareness and education mechanisms.
