Harlequin is the female version of the character who participated in the commedia dell'arte, italian comedy genre.
The harlequin, like the harlequin, was a kind of clown, which had as its main objective entertain people by making them laugh.
Harlequins are known for their clothing made from several colored triangular patches, with a three- or four-cornered hat and small bells/rattles in each.
Etymologically, the word “harlequin” (as well as harlequin) originated from the Italian harlecchino, which was precisely the name given to the “clown” who participated in the so-called “art comedies”.

The female version of Harlequin – Harlequin – became popular in contemporary pop culture thanks to the comic book character Harley Quinn, a supervillain known as Harlequin.
This character belongs to the DC Comics Universe and first appeared in the stories of the “Batman” series in 1992.
Harlequin is also very popular for being the companion of Batman's main enemy: the Joker.
