Meaning of Mucama (What it is, Concept and Definition)

Mucama was the name given to black maid (or slave) who provided domestic services for her masters. They used to be young and beautiful and, in some cases, they also served as wet nurse for the children of their bosses.

Etymologically, this term originated from the Kimbundu language makamba, which had the meaning of "concubine slave". This word was used mainly in Brazil and in some Portuguese-speaking African countries.

At the time of slavery, maids were seen as "pet slaves" and used to accompany the ladies (mistresses) or their daughters (mistresses-girls) in country or city walks, in addition to performing other functions homemade.

Also known as mucamba or mocamba, this type of slave still had the obligation to sexually satisfy your masters, when asked to do so.

Even with a different treatment compared to the rest of the slaves (some mucamas received different education, such as English or French classes, for example), the maid was also the target of constant threats and torture by her employers, if she failed to comply with any order or contravened the commands of her superiors.
