Emoji is of Japanese origin, composed by the joining of the elements and (image) and moji (letter), and is considered a pictogram or ideogram, that is, a image that convey the idea of a word or full sentence.
Currently, emojis are very popular on social networks (Facebook, mainly) and in instant messaging communications such as WhatsApp, for example.
The popularity and influence of emojis is so important in contemporary communications that, in 2015, one of these emojis was chosen with “The Word of the year” (“The Word of the Year”, in Portuguese), by the Oxford Dictionary, due to its “cultural significance”.
The first emojis appeared in Japan in the 1990s, created by Shigetaka Kurita, one of the members of NTT DoCoMo – Japan's leading mobile phone company.
Emojis are very useful for transmitting messages quickly, without the need to write explanatory text.

Difference between Emoticons and Emojis
Many people consider emoticons and emojis to be synonymous, however both have very different concepts.
The term emoticon is the agglutination of two English words: emotion (emotion) and icon (icon), and consists of using graphic characters to represent human emotions.
