The executive education sector of Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV) is now open for registration for the free online course on Introduction to Data Science. The course consists of six modules totaling 60 hours in length and aims to provide a career overview.
To participate in the course, it is not necessary to go through a selection process. The only prerequisite is knowledge of the English language for reading texts, as part of the bibliography used is in English.
Within the field of technology, data science encompasses knowledge of computing, statistics, artificial intelligence, applied mathematics and optimization. From these techniques, the data scientist is able to propose solutions based on large data sets, being a profession in expansion in the labor market.

As the course coordinator and professor at FGV's School of Applied Mathematics, Jorge Poco, points out, undergraduate and graduate courses are being created in universities around the world. According to him, the course will present concepts, real case studies and different applications of data science, which is present in the management of companies, banks and even in combating the coronavirus.
At the end of the course, students will be able to take a test with 10 questions and, with 70% or more correctness, will be entitled to a declaration of participation. Entries can be made by FGV website.
