What is textual genre? Definition, types and examples


All texts have some similarities. These characteristics make the textual genres. However, it should be kept in mind that each textual genre has its own style.

To know which genre a text fits into, it is necessary to understand that the subject and the situation, as well as the role of the interlocutors, are fundamental to this separation.

It is practically impossible to define the amount of existing textual genres in the Portuguese language. Therefore, some terms such as textual type and literary genre become fundamental. Know what they are:

refer only to truly literary texts, and can be classified according to their form as:

  • Dramatic;
  • Lyrical;
  • Epic;
  • Narrative.

Textual genres are defined according to the common characteristics that the texts have in relation to language and content. There are numerous textual genres and one must be very careful not to confuse them with textual or literary genres.
