THE Central America is a subcontinent limited to the north by the Yucatán Peninsula, Mexico, and to the south by Colombia. In the west it is bathed by the Pacific Ocean and in the east by the Atlantic Ocean.
The region is located on the Caribbean tectonic plate and comprises 20 countries, out of a total of 35 that make part of the American Continent, and 16 overseas or island territories, which are domains of others nations.
