With the intention of providing a reflection on the introduction of blacks into Brazilian society, it is celebrated on the day November 20th, the Black Consciousness Day in Brazil.
The date was chosen in honor of Zumbi dos Palmares who, in life, fought bravely against the slavery in Brazil during the Colonial period. The leader died in 1695, leaving his mark on history.
The date has been considered important for many years, but it was only in 2003, on January 9th, that law 10.639 included the Nacional day of black consciousness in the school calendar.
